Does anyone have tips on settling credit card debts?

I want specific tips for negotiating with the credit card companies. I’m somewhat meek and I know it’s going to be hard for me to really stand my ground when trying to settle. I’m a few thousand dollars in debt, haven’t been making payments for about 4-5 months so they should be desperate to settle. I’m just nervous about getting them to agree on an amount I can afford. I have a student loan and I can only settle for a certain amount of that obviously. Has anyone done their own debt settling before, without a consolidation company?
Thanks for any advice :)

(Please don’t answer the question with comments about why I SHOULDN’T settle my debts or had bad credit cards are. This is something I have obviously already realized and not what I’m asking, I am set on paying a lump sum to settle.)

Does anyone have any advice on student loans and what to do with them after college?Besides paying them back. Any information on consolidation or programs and plans would be greatly appreciated.

I have mounting debt mainly due to student loans (whihc I would liek to pay seperate) but everythign else from credit cards and phone bills etc is very hihg close to 15,000. I want to consolidate so ic an make monthly payments to all of them and try to save my credit. any good place u can recomment that will no charge me a high interest rate or take too much profits away?

We know the downside of – if one of us dies the other is responsible for the loan – but we both have such high interest rates and would love to consolidate before they go up again. We are trying to simplify our finances and reap the benefits of smaller payments…

Does anyone know anything about Educational Direct?

I keep getting calls from this place. They are rather pushy to get me to fill out an application. I dont even know if this place is legit, because I believe Student Loan Consolidation Program is the most legit place there is. Is there a way I can get them to stop calling without talking to them? I dont really want to pay for a service just for one number.

Had anyone ever done a student loan consolidation?

Does it require you to provide two references? I know for sure that entrance counseling requires it but what about the consolidation?
Legit answer please. Anyone with an advertisement to apply for a loan will be reported.
I am not applying for student loan. I just want to know if the consolidation really does require 2 references because I don’t want to be a referencer if it don’t require it.
And no, I will not use Nelnet

Like most people, i didnt read the fine print and now sallie mae has my balls in a vice. I need to know if anyone knows of a federal grant program that will pay off my debt to sallie mae? This question has been posted before, but it seems everyone always points you in the direction of “debt consolidation”. My goal is a program that will fully pay off the loan. Any one got some wisdom?

Our kids have private student loans with Citibank. They had the best consolidation options when the loans were obtained and now they won’t consolidate their OWN loans. Can anyone recommend a reputable company. I know Wells Fargo will consolidate private loans from other places, but I don’t know anything about them.
